WEEK 9 | Experience Prototyping

Image
In this week contact, we had a little activity to test our experience on using the Slack app. We had 1 minute to find the information in Slack while walking around the obstacles. As we search, we must tap each numbered chair in circling the closest table between each chair. When I walked around the obstacles while searching the information, I can't really focus because the message in Slack are just a mess. I keep scrolling up and down, and did not think of other ways to find the information in other ways. I don't even consider to use the search function. I ended up can't find anything within the 1 minute. I think the time limit and people watching had made me feel more stress and panic. The activity tested the interaction between users and the Slack app while they are doing other task. It tested whether the interface of the app allow users to multi-tasking and the usability. I think Slack in general an unfamiliar app for me, compare to other messaging app. Thus, it ta...

WEEK 8 | Alternative Interaction

Image
Digital Game - Tetris The interaction of Tetris involves gamers' concentration to move the block left or right, and rotate into different direction to fill up the line. Once the line completed, the blocks will disappear and gamer score points. To control the movement of the blocks, gamers have to click arrow keys to control left/right and drop the block. Gamers also need to click space bar to rotate the block. The only thing gamer interact with is the keyboard, and perhaps the monitor. The keyboard can be replaced by alternative interaction method, such as implement a touch screen or game controller. 1) Use foot to control the direction. Put the arrow keys and other control keys on a mat and users need to step on it to control the blocks. 2) Move the tablet left/right to control the blocks. 3) Play the game with Lego blocks that connect with the digital game Communication Platform - Snapchat The main interaction of Snapchat is taking picture and send to someone else. Snapc...

WEEK 7 | Asking Question

Image
(Image from https://techcrunch.com/2016/06/07/questions-you-need-to-ask-your-vc/) In this week contact, we went through different approaches on evaluating and asking the right question for our testing. In the previous testing, I found some of the feedback I gained is not really helpful and people gave very generally comments. These are the questions I asked: In scale 1 to 5 (5 yes, 1 no), do you understand the concept? Do you identify the problem? What do you think about the prototype? In scale 1 to 5 (5 good, 1 bad), is the video clear? (include the explanation, quality) Any thing should be improved? In order to improve the testing results, I tried to ask less "yes/no" and scaling questions, because they do not provide insight and restrict users to express their thoughts. Thus, I decided to create a Google form for the second testing and design more open-ended questions: What's one thing you like about the prototype? What do think about the interface con...

WEEK 7 | Progress

Image
The past few prac sessions, I have been working on the Unity prototype. I tried my best to recreate the device by the 3D object and present the concept by using code.  The body of the device end up formed by an elongated cube and the on-off button is formed by a sphere, embodied in the body. The button shows up in red and green to represent off and on.   I spent some time to come up the idea to show different weathers. At last, I create three scenes that are connected by clicking the on-off button, in order to demonstrate different weather condition. The scene will change when users off the device and turn it on again.  The essentials' images were found online and embedded in a flat 3D object. The 3D objects are hidden in the body to represent the essentials are inside the device. When the user hit 'Yes', the object will show up; 'No' to disappear or not show up. I think the most challenging part to develop an Unity is fi...
